Power steering fluid is one of the least changed fluids and so important to change in order to prevent leaks, prevent premature pump and rack wear, and keep rubber hoses from hardening. Power steering fluid is subject to high pressures and heat that breaks down the fluid. Its also important to flush it to keep the fluid clean so that it can function properly. Preventative maintenance can be expensive but not as expensive as a repair.
