Hydraulic Power Steering
Hydraulic systems rely on a hydraulic pump and pressurized fluid to direct the wheels via a rack and piston mechanism or a piston. It is less efficient and requires more maintenance that an electric system; however, it is also a reliable, simple system that can still be found in some modern cars and many older make/models.
Both systems utilize fluid, but hydraulic systems are reliant on it for full function, while the electric system uses it for lubrication and cooling.

Difficulty Steering, Especially While Turning
Difficulty steering is by far the most common and recognizable indicator your power steering is having a problem. It’s different from a flat tire or an alignment issue. You will typically experience the most problems while driving at lower speeds or turning.
