Get your Car’s A/C Ready for the Summer in Colorado Springs

Be prepared for that summer vacation before you leave for that sun-drenched, cross-country trip and make sure that your air conditioning (A/C) system will keep you and your family cool!  Notice if your fan is not blowing with the strength it used to, check whether the air feels as cold as it used to, and be aware if there is a stale or musty odor when you turn on the A/C. Our complimentary vent temperature check will tell you if your A/C system is cooling as designed by the manufacturer.

A/C Repair in Colorado SpringsYour vehicle’s air conditioning system is quite complex. It consists of a compressor, evaporator core, condenser, receiver/dryer, blower motor, expansion valve, thermostat, Schrader valves, R134A (or some type of refrigerant), belts, pulley/clutch, and more. Any one of these components can have problems, and our experienced technicians can pinpoint the area that is not working properly. Often, musty odors can be taken care of by changing your cabin air filter. Also, be sure to use the outside air source instead of the recirculated air to keep the moisture to a minimum.

Usually, your system either works or does not work, but there can also be an in-between where it works, but does not cool like it should. If it does not work at all, the repair could involve finding the leak, evacuating and recharging the system, or (hopefully not!) it could be a catastrophic failure of the compressor leading to metal contamination of the entire system. Some other common problems with your car A/C system may include: loose or broken belts, clogged valves and filters, low refrigerant levels or refrigerant leaks, or it could be as simple as a blown fuse. Be cautious if you hear strange noises coming from under your hood when you switch your A/C on – turn it off immediately! You may save big bucks by not running it to the point where you contaminate your system with metal particles.

Now is a great time to have your Colorado Springs car air conditioning system checked for temperature and efficiency, so that you are not left “hot and bothered” in the middle of your vacation trip. If your air conditioning system just isn’t cooling like you think it should, stop by our Colorado Springs auto repair shop and let them tell you if you’re just “losing your cool” (we can run a complimentary temperature check)  or if your system truly needs servicing.
